Harnessing Innovation

How We Empowered USAA's Tech Leaders with Custom Platform Training

The Problem

USAA had identified a gap in knowledge within the organization for a web development framework which they had chosen to adopt at the company. The company has a large footprint and many technology leaders so it was important to bring everyone together for an intensive week of learning about the Apache Wicket framework. Mystic has been one of the trailblazers on teaching the Apache Wicket framework and written a lot and was heavily involved with the Apache project.

The Solution

USAA approached the team at Mystic to help train 18 of their technology leaders for a five day course on Apache Wicket. After some initial discovery and sessions with their lead technical architect we designed a custom course for their needs on integrating the framework into their stack. Our training covered the basics to very advanced use cases specifically catered toward large scale implementation and integration. The training throughout the week morphed into covering more detailed topics and writing sample code to help them solve their problems using Apache Wicket’s architecture.

The Result

After the course and subsequent discussions with their lead architect shared the news that momentum and engineering with Apache Wicket had begun in earnest. They had taken what they learned and built out a lot of the design concepts that we taught using site security models with annotations and integrations with their two-level authentication strategy. Through our collaboration with Hazelcast they had looked into a possible integration with that as well. One of our sister sites which had articles that we’ve since integrated into Mystic’s Substack has been used extensively by their team to learn even more as new developments come up.

Staring at a Screen
Mystic brought us the 5 Days of Wicket article series, as well as the Apache Wicket Refcard -- both contributions have been extremely popular on DZone.  Our editorial staff was impressed with Mystic's domain expertise and professionalism --  we look forward to working with them again in the very near future

We asked Mystic to come in to our company to train 18 of our technology leaders for five days covering everything from the basics to very advanced use cases that we presented for our planned large scale implementation and integration... was flexible and in-depth, and we have a lot of momentum on our journey to success with Wicket.
